Can Essential Oil Help with Anxiety?

There are many essential oils that have been said to aid people dealing with anxiety but there are three that we have personally found to be exceptionally relaxing and soothing, some of which you may not be familiar with. Individually each of these essential oils, Cypress, Lavender and Neroli, have been reported to work well as natural remedies to help cope with anxiety but combined, we find they become an even more powerful, working synergistically to create feelings of peace and calm when we feel stressed and anxious.

Our clinical aromatherapist has blended these three very special essential oils in just the right proportions to create our proprietary Easy Going Essential Oil Blend.

Comforting Oil #1 – Cypress Essential Oil

Cypress Essential Oil has long been a favorite of folks looking for a comforting, calming aromatherapy experience.

Our Cypress Essential Oil is Wildcrafted in beautiful Crete, steam distilled from the tree’s fresh or dried twigs and needles. This pale yellow to olive-colored oil has a sweet, woody, smoky aroma with strong mid to base notes. The fragrance of cypress oil blends well with cardamom, cedarwood, clary sage, lavender, orange, pine, rosemary, and sandalwood essential oils.

Comforting Oil #2 – Lavender Essential Oil

We use our Organic Lavender Provence Essential Oil  (Lavandula angustifolia) in this blend because it has a high ester content and a wonderful aroma. Here at Artisan Aromatics, we offer six different 100% pure Lavender Essential Oils but we feel that this Organic Lavender Provence is undoubtedly the absolute best of the best. It’s a great choice for those who would like to add a  single drop to the pillow before going to bed to help achieve peaceful sleep. Organic Lavender Provence is the best Lavender of any that I have encountered, and for me, the aroma of this essential oil is gentle, soothing and relaxing. Comforting Oil #3 – Neroli Essential Oil aka Orange Blossom Oil

Neroli Essential Oil is steam distilled from the flowering blossoms of the orange tree (Citrus aurantium) which have a beautiful aroma. The aroma of Neroli Essential Oil is intensely floral, sweet, and exotic. Neroli essential oil blends well with many other essential oils. Although it’s more expensive than the average essential oil a little goes a long way and the complexity of the aroma is really best appreciated in low dilutions.

I think Neroli has one of the most heavenly aromas of any essential oil and  I find it to be very calming and reassuring – like an aromatic embrace.

A study in the journal Biomedical Research International (2014) found aromatherapy was effective in reducing levels of depression, anxiety, and stress in a four-week aromatherapy program for older persons with chronic pain. One small study that needs to be replicated is not proof that aromatherapy will work for everyone but quite a body of research is accumulating to support the effectiveness of aromatherapy. Regular use of essential oils may offer calming and soothing feelings and help you feel less anxious – try it and see for yourself!
