Coriander Essential Oil

Coriander Essential Oil (Coriandrum sativum) from Russia is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil.

Coriander is an annual herb growing 11 to 33 inches high with bright green leaves and dainty white flowers with bunches of small fruits that turn from green to brown as they ripen. Native to the Mediterranean and western Asia, coriander is cultivated around the world in temperate climates. Both the seed and leaf produce an essential oil with the seed oil coming mainly from Russia, Romania, and Vietnam. The name coriandrum comes from the Latin word koros meaning bed bug. This is because the odor of the fresh leaves resembles the insect’s smell.

Coriander seeds have been a popular stimulant and spice for thousands of years. Coriander has been cultivated for over 3000 years and it mentioned in medical texts from medieval Europe and ancient Greece, in the Bible and early Sanskrit writers. The seeds have been found at the tombs of Tutankhamun and Rameses II.

Coriander is indigenous to the Holy Land and was one of the bitter herbs eaten by the Hebrews at Passover. In medieval Europe, coriander was considered to be an aphrodisiac and was used in love magic and potions.

Energetically, Coriander Essential Oil is considered to be warm and dry in nature having digestive and carminative properties. Coriander Essential Oil circulates Qi-energy in the Stomach and intestines and is useful for poor appetite, indigestion, abdominal distention, and flatulence. Coriander Essential Oil also fortifies the Qi and the nerves making it useful for general debility, mental fatigue, and nervous exhaustion.

Coriander is traditionally classified as a Herb of Protection and Immortality imbuing feelings of peace, security, and permanence.
