Ginger Essential Oil

Ginger Essential Oil (Zingiber officinale) from China is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil steam distilled from the root.

The spice known as ginger comes from a tropical perennial herb growing 2 – 4 ft high with reed-like stems, sword-like leaves and yellow flowers with purple markings. The stem grows directly from a thick tuberous rhizome, from which both the spice and essential oil are derived. Ginger is native to Southeast Asia yet grows in tropical climates through-out the world.

Ginger has been used for centuries in Asia for food preparation and medical uses. In traditional Chinese medicine the fresh root is used for colds and chills. The dried root restores the body’s yang energy.

One of the first products to travel the spice route from Asia to Europe and both the Romans and Greeks used it extensively. The Greek physician Dioscorides recommended it as a digestive stimulant. In the 16th century the Spanish empire began cultivation of ginger in the West Indies. Jamaican ginger is considered the best type to use in cooking.

Ginger Essential Oil is warming, invigorating, and decongesting. It has a wide sphere of action stimulating the yang energy of Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lungs, and Kidneys. It is very useful for cold individuals with a pale swollen tongue.

Ginger Essential Oil’s ability to strengthen the yang-energy of the Kidneys makes it useful for relieving lower back pain. It’s tonifying effect on the Kidneys accounts for it’s use as a sexual tonic.

Ginger is associated with the astrological planet Mars activating will-power, stimulating initiative, and restoring determination.
