Osmanthus Absolute
Osmanthus Absolute (Osmanthus fragrans) from France is a high quality, solvent-extracted Absolute widely used in perfumery.
Golden and delicate osmanthus flowers emit off a surprisingly powerful scent. They open to release their rich, elegant fragrance that is often described as sensual, fruity and floral.
Osmanthus is native to China and in the 17th century, osmanthus spread to other regions including Japan, Europe, and North America. Our high quality oil comes from osmanthus is grown in France but the largest osmanthus plantations are in China. Harvesting of the delicate flowers is done the day the blooms open since they quickly fade. In Japan sweet osmanthus is a favorite garden shrub. Its small white flowers appear in clusters in late autumn. The blossoms have an intense sweet fragrance.
Note on Osmanthus Sample Vial:
Because of the cost of this precious oil, the Sample Vial contains only 5 drops – plenty of oil for you to enjoy the aroma of this exquisite essential oil and decide if you want to purchase a larger size.
There are two traditional methods of extracting the oil from the plant material:
- Steam distillation, which produces an essential oil (this method is not suitable for osmanthus).
- Solvent extraction, which results in an absolute.
In addition to osmanthus absolute, we offer quite a few other high quality Absolutes suitable for natural perfumery as well as aromatherapy (via diffusion) like rose, vanilla, oak moss and more.
