Ginger Essential Oil
Ginger Essential Oil from China is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil steam distilled from the root.
The spice known as ginger comes from a tropical perennial herb growing 2 – 4 feet high with reed-like stems, sword-like leaves, and yellow flowers with purple markings. The stem grows directly from a thick tuberous rhizome, from which both the spice and essential oil are derived. Ginger is native to Southeast Asia yet grows in tropical climates throughout the world.
Ginger has been used for centuries in Asia for food preparation and medical uses. In traditional Chinese medicine, the fresh root is used for colds and chills. The dried root restores the body’s yang energy.
One of the first products to travel the spice route from Asia to Europe and both the Romans and Greeks used it extensively. The Greek physician Dioscorides recommended it as a digestive stimulant. In the 16th century, the Spanish empire began the cultivation of ginger in the West Indies. Jamaican ginger is considered the best type to use in cooking.
Ginger Essential Oil has been described as warming, invigorating, and decongesting. In Chinese Medicine, the herb ginger has been said to have a wide sphere of action that includes stimulating the yang energy of Spleen, Stomach, Heart, Lungs, and Kidneys.
Ginger herb’s ability to strengthen the yang-energy of the Kidneys makes it useful for relieving lower back pain and some modern aromatherapists have described the essential oil as having similar effects when included in massage oil formulations.
Esoterically, ginger is associated with the astrological planet Mars and has been said to aid in activating will-power, stimulating initiative, and restoring determination.
