Oak Moss Absolute
Oak Moss Absolute (Evernia prunastri) comes from France, where it is made by solvent extraction.
Oak Moss Oil is quite thick – not suitable for bottling in sizes smaller than 5ml. Its principle use is in perfumery. Absolutes are highly concentrated, aromatic oils derived via solvent extraction of plant material – often from flowers that are too delicate for steam distillation, like Jasmine, Mimosa and White and Pink Lotus. Because the extraction process involves lower temperatures than distillation, the aromatic compounds in Absolutes can smell exceptionally fresh.
Like all of our Artisan Aromatics essential oils, enfleurage oils, absolutes and blends, this oil has been carefully selected for its therapeutic quality. Then, to ensure maximum freshness and potency, it is bottled by hand in USA only after orders are received.
Top notes of earthy, bark and pine-like over deeper rich notes of moss, wood, decaying leaf, and damp earth notes; deep and evocative. Oakmoss is an excellent fixative with tremendous tenacity. Often Oakmoss Absolutes have contained potential allergens with a high risk of skin sensitization but ours contains a low percentage of atranol (a contact allergen) and meets international standards. Our Oil is solvent & alcohol extracted in France from Evernia prunastri, a type of lichen that grows mostly on oak trees.
When blending Oakmoss Absolute note that although it is soluble in alcohol, it is only partially soluble in a vegetable/carrier oil base and may settle out in cool temperatures. Warming the oil slightly and gently agitating should restore the oak moss more evenly in the oil.
NOTE: Must be diluted. Avoid use on sensitive skin. Oakmoss Absolute is not recommended for therapeutic purposes – intended for use in perfumery only.
