Organic Clove Bud Essential Oil
Organic Clove Bud (Eugenia caryophylatta) essential oil from Madagascar is Organic therapeutic quality essential oil steam distilled from the buds.
The familiar spice clove comes from an evergreen tree which grows up to twelve feet in height. At harvest time the branches are beaten with sticks causing the clove buds to fall to the ground. The clove buds are then gathered and dried to be used in the spice and perfume industries. The clove essential oil is extracted by water distillation from the buds.
Most Clove Bud EO generally contains up to 85% Eugenol. Eugenol is a phenol that contributes to the oil’s aroma, therapeutic properties, and safety precautions. Clove Bud EO is also comprised of a number of other constituents, particularly the sesquiterpene B-caryophyllene and the ester Eugenyl acetate.
Clove Oil is very helpful for use in blends intended to help relieve pain. It is also a powerful antimicrobial essential oil. However, Clove Essential Oil can be quite irritating to the skin. Tisserand and Young recommend a dermal maximum of just 0.5%.
Clove Bud Precautions
Clove Bud Essential Oil is a skin irritant. Maximum concentration for application to skin is 0.1% to 0.5%.
Alternative: Clove Leaf Essential Oil is lest harsh than the oil from the clove bud. It is still a skin irritant but usually a better alternative than the clove bud oil. It too is not restricted so we can also sell it to non-practitioners but still, caution and extra dilution is recommended: Clove Leaf Essential Oil.
More Info: Clove is believed to have originated in Indonesia and the buds were on of the earliest spices traded in the ancient world. It was used extensively in China for many ailments.
