Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil
Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil (Citrus × paradisi) from the USA is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil expressed from the peels.
Grapefruit trees are now cultivated in warm regions around the world and are believed to have come from the pomelo, which is native to Asia and is one of the original citrus species from which the rest of cultivated citrus have been hybridized. The pomelo was first brought to Spain from Asia by Arab traders in the 12th century. From there, later traders carried it to the West Indies in the 18th century and this led to the cultivation of the grapefruit in the New World.

Organic Grapefruit Essential Oil, White is widely used in aromatherapy and has been described by proponents of that field as cooling, decongestant, cleansing and revitalizing. It has been said by some practitioners of aromatherapy to benefit those who have a sluggish lymphatic system.
Gabriel Mojay, in his book Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit (1997) described Grapefruit Essential Oil as being beneficial for feelings of tension, frustration, irritability and moodiness.
How to Use Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil
Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil is appropriate to use for diffusion or topical application (use on the skin). For use on the skin, we recommend a maximum concentration (in vegetable oil) of 2%; adding 18 drops of Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil to one ounce of vegetable oil (such as Sweet Almond Oil or Grapeseed Oil) will give you a 2% concentration. When properly diluted, Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil is good for use in lymphatic massage, either alone or as one component in a blend of essential oils.
For a cheering and revitalizing bath, you can try adding three drops of White Grapefruit Essential Oil to a tablespoon of whole milk or vegetable oil and mixing this into a warm bath . Please be aware that if you use vegetable oil, the tub will be slick so take care not to slip. Also, keep in mind that using excessively hot water for bathing with essential oils increases the risks of skin irritation.
We especially like to use Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil in a diffuser or by putting a couple of drops on an aromatherapy locket (chose a locket that will not allow the essential oil to touch the skin: lava stones and other stones that rest directly on the skin are not a good choice).

Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil in History and Traditional Medicines
In classical Chinese medicine, Grapefruit Essential Oil has reportedly been used to help remove heat and to disperse stagnant Qi in the Liver. This stagnant energy was said to lead to abdominal distention, nausea, and constipation and some modern practitioners of this ancient system believe that Grapefruit Essential Oil helps to cool the liver and thusly relieves these problems. From the perspective of classical Chinese Medicine, an individual with a hot, damp constitution was believed to be prone to a number of conditions that Grapefruit Essential Oil White (Organic) can theoretically help to alleviate, including psychological states related to stress, tension and anger.
In classical Chinese Medicine, the energy of Organic White Grapefruit Essential Oil is said to be Cool and Dry and it’s main elemental correspondence is with Wood.

White Grapefruit Essential Oil, Organic is phototoxic. This means that it can promote severe sun burning if used on the skin less than 12 hours before exposure to sunlight or tanning lamps. These sun burns can be very severe so caution must be observed. Phototoxic reactions can occur not only following application to the skin but also after this essential oil has been used in a steam room, steamy shower, or using a facial steamer (for example, if you put a few drops on a damp rag in the shower).
Like other citrus essential oils, White Grapefruit Essential Oil, is prone to easy/rapid oxidation (spoilage), especially if not stored properly in tightly capped, dark bottles and away from heat and moisture. Spoiled Grapefruit Essential Oil can cause sensitization reactions when applied to the skin. For this reason, we recommend refrigerating this essential oil and replacing it after six months.
