Black Spruce Essential Oil – Wildcrafted
Our small batch Artisanal Wildcrafted Black Spruce essential oil (Picea mariana) comes from Spruce needles wildcrafted and steam-distilled into a wonderful essential oil by our cherished source in Canada. It has a clean, coniferous aroma with balsamic top notes and sweet, earthy undertones reminiscent of the deep. green forests where it grows.
Herbal preparations of Black Spruce Oil have reportedly been used in traditional cultures to address body aches and pains and as a remedy for respiratory complaints. The resin has been used in the tree’s native range as a chewing gum, while both cones and needles have been utilized for making therapeutic salves and tea. Aromatherapists have described the essential oil as potentially having grounding and calming effects.
We enjoy using our Wildcrafted Black Spruce Essential Oil in small amounts for inhalation and application to the skin (properly diluted, of course). For inhalation just use a drop or two in a low-output diffuser, such as a fan diffuser; or, use it as one ingredient in a blend with other essential oils. You can then use that blend in your diffuser. Wildcrafted Black Spruce can also be used, alone or as part of a blend, for a traditional steam inhalation. Just a drop or two is all you need. Spruce Oil can be used for application to sore muscles, or as an application to the chest and throat so that it’s vapors will rise up and reach the respiratory system: for these uses, dilute it in vegetable oil to a maximum concentration of 1% (this is equal to 9 drops of the essential oil in one ounce of vegetable oil). We do not recommend that Black Spruce Oil or any Spruce Oil be used in a hot bath since heat may increase the risk of sensitization if the oil has become oxidized.
Black Spruce Oil Alternative:
Even though this Wildcrafted & Artisanal Black Spruce Essential Oil is my favorite, some might also like our less expensive conventionally grown Black Spruce Essential Oil (also Picea mariana). We also offer Spruce Essential Oil (Tsuga canadensis)
