Manuka Essential Oil
Manuka has been used for hundreds of years by the indigenous people of New Zealand, the Maori. The Manuka plant originates in New Zealand. Manuka essential oil is similar to the more well known Tea Tree Oil, but differs in composition, source, and origin. Like Tea Tree Oil, this one has many wonderful uses and many consider it to to be even more effective than Tea Tree Oil. Although it is often call “New Zealand Tea Tree Essential Oil,” it is not the same as Tea Tree Oil – the plants are similar but are a different genus and have different components and properties.
Quality
Like all of our Artisan Aromatics essential oils, enfleurage oils, absolutes and blends, this oil has been carefully selected for its therapeutic quality. Then, to ensure maximum freshness and potency, it is bottled by hand in USA only after orders are received.
Manuka Essential Oil
Our Artisan Aromatics Manuka Essential Oil (Leptospermum scoparium) from New Zealand is 100% Pure & Natural Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil steam distilled from the leaves and young twigs of the Manuka plant. The main natural components are caryophyllene, geraniol, pinene, linalol, humulene, and leptospermone.
When the English explorer Captain Cook visited New Zealand in 1769, he described the Manuka plant as a ‘tea plant’ which led to the local name, tea tree. Captain Cook used the leaves as an alternative to traditional tea to help ward off the effects of scurvy amongst his crew. During the following two centuries, little more information of scientific nature was published.
It is amazing to discover that all these therapeutic uses of the Manuka tea tree plant were identified by the Maori people centuries ago, and only now, in the past two or three decades, has modern science confirmed that these uses were legitimate and the active compounds identified in scientific analysis.
And, of course, if you’ve tried Manuka Essential Oil, you simply must also try its relative: Kanuka Essential Oil.
