Valerian Root Essential Oil
Valerian Root Essential Oil (Valeriana officinalis) from India is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil distilled from the roots. It has a warm, earthy, musky aroma with a subtle green top note. It is one of those oils that people either love or hate, so we offer small (1.85) sample sizing if you just want to try it out.
The essential oil of Valerian is distilled from the roots and is a fairly thick liquid with an olive to brown color. It’s aroma is lasting and blends well with Patchouli, Lavender, Mandarin Orange, Rosemary, and Cedarwood. I especially like it blended with Mandarin Orange and Lavender essential oils. Because the aroma is strong, it can overpower a blend and is best used in small amounts.
Historical Uses:
Valerian root has been used in herbal medicine since at least Medieval times. It has been known by the common name “All-heal” in the past and was used for a variety of complaints. Some historical indications for use of Valerian root as an herb (not an essential oil) have included restlessness, sleep problems, and skin complaints.
In Chinese Medicine, Valerian root herb has been used, among other things, for poor appetite, irritability, and as a tonic in cases of exhaustion.
