Celery Seed Essential Oil
Celery Seed Essential Oil (Apium graveolens) from India is Therapeutic Quality Essential Oil steam distilled from the seeds.
Celery Seed Essential Oil is derived from the celery plant, scientifically known as Apium graveolens from the Umbelliferae plant family. Celery is a revered herb to the Chinese and is widely used in the Indian Ayurvedic medicine.
Celery Seed Essential Oil
Apium graveolens is a familiar biennial plant native to southern Europe and cultivated extensively as a domestic vegetable. Celery Seed essential oil possesses a spicy, warm, long-lasting aroma. It is fragrance component in many soaps, cosmetics, and perfumes and is mainly produced in India and the US.
Celery is particularly prized in India where the whole plant – roots, shoots, oil and seeds – supplies both food and medicine. In Ayurveda the seeds and seed extracts are used in regard to the nervous system and for inefficient water and digestive metabolism that often presents as puffiness in the skin or as intestinal gas. And just like the essential oils found in seeds from many traditional culinary herbs and is a suitable aide for the digestive system.
Limonene is the dominant constituent, about 70%, similar to the bright and refreshing citrus peel and fir needle oils. However it is the secondary constituents, phthalides and β-selinene, that bring both the typical celery fragrance and much of the therapeutic value.
Blends well with: Bergamot, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lime, Cedarwood, and Geranium. I particularly like the combination of Celery & Bergamot.
Main Natural Constituents:
a-pinene, camphene, b-pinene, sabinene, myrcene, y-terpinene, limonene, b-bisabolene, geranyl acetate and carotol
